Crochet Earrings

posted in: DIY | 0

Crochet Earrings is the sort of handmade creation that I include in my list of so-called value for money crafts. In other words, it is amazing what you can do with a few yards of yarn and a Crochet Hook.

In this video, you will find out how you can crochet over a pair of Hoop Earrings and create Five Petal Crochet Flowers, in two different sizes, strung on the middle of the hoops.

To create this pair of Crochet Earrings you need basic Crochet Skills such as knowing and being able to make a Slip Knot, a Chain Stitch, a Slip Stich, a Single Crochet, a Double Crochet, a Treble Crochet and a Double Treble Crochet.

The above-mentioned Terms are US Crochet Terms but in the Video, as well as in the instructions bellow, you will also find the conversions in UK Crochet terms.

Each of the Earrings is composed of 22 Single Crochet Stitches, crocheted over the earring hoop, followed by a Small Five Petal Flower and a Big Five Petal Flower with a spacing of 3 Single Crochet stitches after each flower, crocheted over the hoop as well.

Then come a second Small Five Petal Flower and a Second Big Five Petal Flower with a spacing of 3 Single Crochet Stitches between them, followed by 22 Single Crochet Stitches over the other end of the hoop.

Instructions:

Begin with a Slip knot. Make 22 Single Crochet (UK Double) over the Earring wire (put the Hook under the wire, bring the yarn to the front, and yarn over).

When the 22nd Single Crochet is complete Chain 4, to start creating the first Small Flower. Release your Hook and Insert it through the first of the 4 chains. Bring the 4 chains under the Earring “wire” and insert your hook through your working loop. Open the Earring clasp to be able to bring the yarn to the front. Slip Stitch to form a little “Ring” around the wire.

Chain 1 to begin the first petal of the flower (1 chain equals 1 single crochet). Make 3 Treble Crochet (UK Double Treble) inserting your hook through the center of the ring. Complete the first petal of the first Small Flower with 1 Single Crochet. Begin the second petal with one Single Crochet. Then Treble Crochet 3 Times and complete the second petal with one Single Crochet. Repeat three more times until you have a total of 5 petals.

When the fifth petal is complete release your hook, reverse the Earring, so that you will face the back side of the flower and insert your hook into the first chain in the beginning of the first petal. Insert also through your working loop and Slip Stitch to complete the first Small Flower. Single Crochet 3 over the Earring Wire, exactly like you did in the beginning, to create a small space between the flowers.

Chain 5 to start creating the first Big Flower. Release your Hook and Insert it through the first of the 5 chains. Bring the 5 chains under the Earring “wire” and insert your hook through your working loop. Open the Earring clasp to be able to bring the yarn to the front. Slip Stitch to form a little “Ring” around the wire.

Chain 2 to begin the first petal of the flower (2 chains equal 1 Double crochet). Make 3 Double Treble Crochet (UK Triple Treble) inserting your hook through the center of the ring. Complete the first petal of the first Small Flower with 1 Double Crochet (UK Treble). Begin the second petal with one Double Crochet. Then DoubleTreble Crochet 3 Times and complete the second petal with one Double Crochet. Repeat three more times until you have a total of 5 petals.

When the fifth petal is complete release your hook, reverse the Earring, so that you will face the back side of the flower and insert your hook into the second chain in the beginning of the first petal. Insert also through your working loop and Slip Stitch to complete the first Small Flower. Single Crochet 3 over the Earring Wire, to create a small space between the next flower.

Create the second Small Flower by following exactly the same steps as in the first one. Begin with 4 chains and end with a Slip Stitch at the reverse side of the flower. Again Single Crochet 3 over the Earring Wire, to create a small space between the next flower.

Create the second and last Big Flower by following exactly the same steps as in the first one. Begin with 5 chains and end with a Slip Stitch at the reverse side of the flower. Single Crochet 22 over the Earring wire as in the beginning.

When the 22nd single crochet is complete cut the yarn and tie it off by pulling the end through the working loop. Weave in the tail by pulling the loose end through 4-5 stitches and then going back through and pulling the tail through the same stitches, towards the opposite direction. Finally, Repeat the weave in process for the other end of the Earring.

Notes and Tips:
  • Begin the 22 Single Crochet from the back end of the Hoop, so that when worn, the second Big Flower will appear first in line.
  • I suggest using the specific yarn because I like the golden hoop to stand out under the stitches. A thicker yarn would cover the entire hoop surface, but it would also be much easier to work with. The choice is yours.
  • Do not make your stitches too loose if you want your Crochet Earrings to look nice. If you decide to use the suggested yarn you must crochet your stitches with a bit of tension, but not too tight.
