Vinca flower Stitch crochet bag

posted in: Crochet, DIY | 0

A very very simple crochet bag created with a slightly challenging but truly beautiful crochet stitch you are about to discover in this new crochet video tutorial. The Vinca flower stitch crochet bag. And for those of you who are curious about the name, I must admit that vinca (also known as periwinkle) is the only four-pedal flower that could come to my mind.

So, if you are one of those crochet stitch collectors that are always eager to discover something new you are going to love this stitch. It’s highly decorative, three-dimensional, dense, and it resembles a four-pedal flower. It presents similarities to the Jasmine stitch but it is significantly less yarn-consuming and much easier to work.

The Vinca flower stitch is worked in joined rounds and it’s a one-round repeat pattern. To work this stitch, you need to start with a foundation that’s a multiple of 3. If you don’t want to use a bag shaper you can crochet an oval or a base. Even if your perimeter doesn’t result in a multiple of 3 you can fix this by adding increases to the second round of double crochet.

The same applies to those of you who will use a bag shaper with a number of holes different from the bag shaper used on the video. By adding an increase into each corner of your bag shaper you add 4 extra stitches to the total of your 2nd round. So, all you have to do is count to find how many stitches you need to add to result into a multiple of 3 and then add the same number of increases at the corners of your base.

Insert into the last st of the round back loop only and bring the needle at the reverse side of your stitch. Weave the tail in and cut the excess.
  • Attach a zipper with your sewing thread and needle using the backstitch technique. Do the same to attach the lining.

Tips

  • In theory, you can use this stitch with any yarn. My advice is to always use it with a
flat type of yarn like ribbon or t-shirt yarn or some other type of chunky yarn to bring
out the best of it. Thin tubular types of yarn like macramé cord would simply not do it
    justice.
  • The Vinca flower stitch is one of these decorative stitches that need to be worked
on kind of loose. Especially when working the pedals, which need to be long and rich.
However, make sure to work the chains that join the pedals pretty tight. Otherwise,
when you reinsert your hook to place the pedals of the next round the chain will
loosen and you will end up with a gap at the heart of the flower.

With that said I believe I got it all covered. So now all you have to do is get your supplies, watch the video and create your own amazing Vinca flower stitch crochet bag.
