If you were looking for Crochet Granny Square Bag tutorial you are in the right place. And yes the crochet bag you see in the thumbnail of the above video, indeed is a Granny Square Bag. Do not let appearances fool you.
This special summer crochet bag was made using Raffia yarn a material that makes it, a must do project for the summer. It’s very light and has an extraordinary texture due to its natural, eco-friendly material.
The most intriguing fact about this bag apart from its apparently unique shape, is that it actually consists of only one, single semisolid granny square. The only indication of which fact is the bottom.
But let me try and explain this a simple as possible. The pattern of this exceptional crochet bag progresses as a typical semisolid granny square until the 10nth round. The square starts with 3 double crochet on each side separated by 2 chains in every corner.
From the second round and on each round increases by 16 double crochet. 4 double crochet are added in every corner separated by 2 chains that gradually form 2 beautiful intersecting, diagonal lines, of holes.
On the 11nth round, the pattern decreases by 3 stitches on each side to end up with an even number of stitches, required to later create 3 lines of bead stitches that comprise, my personal contribution to this very popular pattern.
From the 12th round until the end of the pattern, a decrease of 4 stitches per round that is placed in the middle of each side, compensates the corner increases, so that bag will progress by maintaining the same number of stitches in the following round.
As a result, the square seizes to be a square as the sides start to curve towards the center. The corners of the square start to rise, while the center of each side remains at a lower level. This last effect combined with the use of multiple color yarn creates an impressive chevron look.
