Crochet Wristlet Purse

Wristlet Bags ruled the catwalks during winter and they will continue to rule in Spring and Summer. A Crochet Wristlet Purse combines two of the hottest trends for the coming seasons since Crochet Bags are too, must-have accessories according to the runways.

This Crochet Wristlet Bag is an exclusive original pattern of mine that I designed especially for paraligo. It is unique and it was inspired by a prohibition era, vintage beaded purse.

Though it might be kind of challenging in some parts it’s construction it requires only a few, easy to acquire supplies. It is worked in the round using mainly the single crochet stitch and some other basic crochet techniques.

Its minimal appearance makes it easy to match several looks and though light and small, It’s quite capable of carrying all your odds and ends and even more.

Cut your yarn fasten off and thread the tail to your darning needle. Insert into the first stitch of the 30th round and bring the tail in. Insert the needle into the back loop of the last stitch of the round and bring the tail in. Weave in the tail to reverse side of the stitches at the inside of your bag. Cut the excess and burn the edge.

HANDLE

Fold the bag along the baseline and fold it again in half. Mark 6 middle stitches at the upper side of the bag and mark the 1st and last with stitch markers. Fold the bag towards the other side and again locate and mark the 1st and last the 6 middle stitches. Use distinct colors to indicate the front side (not the one with the seam).

Foundation:

Insert your hook into the back loop of the 6th stitch of the front side, grab the yarn and pull it out. Make 2 knots. Insert into both loops of the same stitch and yarn over pull a loop and chain one.

Insert into the next stitch bring the tail on top, yarn over pull a loop, yarn over again and pull through the last loop on your hook.  Repeat until the last of the six stitches. Remove the stitch markers.

Round 1:

Grab the 2.5mm hook on your free hand and slip 5 of the 6 six loops to your small hook. Bring your big hook to the inside of the purse yarn over and pull through the loop on your big hook.  Insert your hook into the first loop on your small hook and slip it off. Yarn over and pull through that loop. Repeat until you have 6 loops on your big hook.

Round 2- 60:

Repeat round 1

Place 1 stitch marker into each of the 6 loops on your big hook. Use distinct colors to mark the first and sixth loop. Place your bag with the handle-less side up. Fold your handle without twisting it and bring the end near the six marked stitches. Release your hook and insert under the first stitch from the left into the little v were you would place a waistcoat stitch but from the inside of the bag. Remove the stitch marker from the 1st loop of the handle from the left, insert your hook into that loop and draw it in. Yarn over and chain one. *Release your hook and insert into the v under the second stitch. Remove the stitch marker from the second loop, insert your hook into that loop and draw it in. Insert your hook into the loop that carries the yarn at the inside of the bag, yarn over and place a single crochet. * Repeat from * until the end of the 6 loops and corresponding stitches.

Cut your yarn fasten off, thread the tail to a darning needle and weave it in the reverse side of the stitches at the inside of the bag. Cut the excess and burn the edge.

ZIPPER

Fold the bag along the line of the handle and use some pins, a thin needle and thread for sewing to attach the zipper, by sewing with a simple backstitch.

CLASP

Divide the magnetic clasp into Its two parts. Use the sewing thread and needle to attach each part on one end of the handle, at the inner side, low near the corresponding end of the zipper.

FINAL STYLING:

Unzip the bag, unfold it and fold it again along the line of the base and vertically to the handle. Zip the bag and push in the middle of the zipper to fold it in half. Close the magnetic clasp and it’s ready.

Tips:

  • I created this pattern using the single crochet stitch, to keep things as simple as possible but you could also use the waistcoat stitch, which will give a more uniform look combined with the stitch of the handle.
  • I created the base using an oval pattern that ends each round with a join. This resulted in a really symmetrical oval bottom. I continued to join until the last round of the bag,  which o created a seam on one side of the bag. If you want to avoid this you could try the same pattern working on the spiral. You would only have to replace the slipstitch with one single crochet and skip the chain.
  • The Yarn I used is a beautiful natural tone that creates a summery look. If you used a dark yarn or one with metallic shines the appearance would be totally wintery. In other words, this Crochet Wristlet Purse is suitable for every season.

With that, I will let you watch the video in order to create your own amazing Crochet Wristlet Purse.
