Crochet Bag Tutorial Zig Zag Puff Stitch Purse

posted in: Crochet, DIY | 1

Crochet Bag Tutorial number two and Paraligo is back with this chunky, bulky, cute, Crochet Purse that so much reminds me of challah bread or as we call it here in Greece Tsoureki.

This chubby Crochet Poschette is created with the Zig Zag Puff stitch, also known as Braided Puff stitch, or V Puff Stitch and it is worked with a thick T-shirt Yarn that gives a pretty impressive result.

Due to the rich texture and volume of the stitch there is no need to use reinforcement or lining, though the second one I will leave to your personal preference, as to be honest lining will give a more sophisticated look to any crochet purse.

The Zig Zag Puff Stitch is pretty similar to the slanting bead stitch, that I used in my previous crochet purse and if you missed that tutorial click here to find out what’s all about.

The main difference between the stitches, is that Slanting bead Stitch is a two row pattern stitch while Zig Zag Puff Stitch is actually one row pattern with only the ground row being slightly different than all followings.

A second significant difference is the skipped stiches spaces, between every two Double Crochet which in this pattern are many more.Crochet Bag Tutorial Zig Zag Puff Stitch Purse 2

To create a Zig Zag Puff Stitch make a number of chains multiple of 3.  Count 3 chains for each Puff plus extra 3 in the end. Then skip 5 chains and place a Double Crochet into the sixth Stitch. Chain one to seal your Double Crochet.

Insert your hook without yarning over, into the third chain from the beginning of the chain and then yarn over and pull a loop. Repeat 3 more times, until you have 8 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 8 loops.

Chain one to seal your puff. Insert your hook into the 3d Chain from your double crochet and place the next double Crochet. Seal it with a Chain. Insert your hook into the stitch were you placed the previous double crochet.

Yarn over and pull a loop 4 times. Yarn over and pull through all 8 loops on your hook. Chain one to seal your puff. Repeat until the end of the row. Turn your work and chain 3.

Place your first Double crochet into the chain that seals the second Puff, and chain one. Insert your hook into the chain that sealed the first Puff. Yarn over and pull a loop 4 times. Yarn over and pull through all 8 loops on your hook. Chain one to seal your puff.

Insert your hook into the sealing chain of the second following puff. Place a double crochet and chain one. Insert your hook into the sealing chain of the previous puff. Yarn over and pull a loop 4 times. Yarn over and pull through all 8 loops on your hook. Chain one to seal your puff. Repeat until the end of row and for all following rows. Place the last double crochet of each row into the second of the 3 turning chains from the previous row.

Tips:

  • There many types of T- Shirt Yarn. For this project It’s best to use a non elastic textile, other wise it will be harder on your hands.
  • Make sure to crochet your foundation chain pretty loose, and then tighten your work from the second row and on,  by pulling your yarn  tight when placing your Double Crochet Stitches.
  • To join the sides of the purse I slip stitched them but you can use darning needle to sew them together with an invisible stitch.

With that said I am leaving to make your own Zig Zag Puff Purse after you watch our Video Crochet Bag Tutorial.
